The Lofts
The loft-style units in the former Adams Street School cover a range of unit types and sizes, from simple studios, to 1- and 2-bedroom units, to attic lofts with cathedral ceilings and open mezzanines. The particular historical details that remain, the adapted residential layout and the varying views from the ample windows create a unique environment in each unit. Adaptive Reuse + Sustainability
The design seeks to “recycle” the building, allowing the historical elements to set the tone. The minimalist quality of new elements speaks to a pared-down urban aesthetic, while allowing the high-quality historical details to shine through.
A concern for sustainable practices was also a key component of the renovation. Among the “green” components of the design are new energy-efficient windows, high-efficiency individual central heating and cooling, low-VOC paints, engineered hardwood floors, Energy Star appliances, dual flush toilets, and space for water-saving front-loading washer-dryer units.
